Four newly elected Sarpy County officials took their oaths of office today.
District Judge George Thompson presided over the ceremony and administered the oaths to:
• Commissioner Don Kelly – Kelly, who represents District 1, is starting his third term on the Sarpy County Board of Commissioners. He has served as Chairman of the Board for the past four years. Kelly is the Vice President of The Garrett Group and a reitred USAF Colonel. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the 55th Wing Association and the Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation, and is an active member of the Offutt Advisory Council, the Omaha Chamber of Commerce's Military Affairs Advisory Group and the Sarpy County Chamber.
• Commissioner Angi Burmeister – Burmeister is starting her first full term representing District 3 on the Sarpy County Board of Commissioners. She was appointed to the board in 2019 to fill a vacant seat. Brumeister is a managing partner with Berkshire & Burmeister Attorneys At Law. She received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her law degree from Creighton University.
• Commissioner Gary Mixan – Mixan is starting his second term on the Sarpy County Board of Commissioners. He was first elected to represent District 4 in 2016 and served as Vice Chair in 2020. Mixan serves as liaison for the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO), Budget & Finance committee and Merit Commission. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the Sarpy/Cass Health Department and the Metropolitian Area Planning Agency.
• Public Defender Tom Strigenz – Strigenz is starting his fifth term as Sarpy County Public Defender. He was first elected in 2005. Strigenz is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association and serves on the Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy.
